Hawthorn Blossom

Hockney got it right,
painting East Yorkshire
spring.
Lanes full of bushes
flowing with white
foam.
I saw it today in
a Cumbrian farm
lane.
Hawthorn carrying
tiny flowers, each
one trying to fly
away.
These ancient trees,
defying death,
revive.
Harsh winter’s frost
in nature’s alchemy
turned,
to gentle clouds of
fragrant, fragile
blossoms.
