A Corona Vision

It all looks the same, the houses, the street;
cars parked outside, gardens tidy and neat.
But something has happened, the order has changed.
Hardly anything’s moving, it’s all very strange.
You can watch the grass grow, hear the birds sing,
have time to think, and yes, celebrate spring.

But news of our sorrow, is daily broadcast
as more people die than when we heard last.
What should we think in this fateful time,
when hospitals struggle and families pine?
Is it a warning that we must all heed?
Has nature replied to our rampant greed?

Is it a foretaste of worse things to face;
earth’s hidden answer for our human race?
We’ve taken her forests and dried up her lakes,
killed most of the animals, made dreadful mistakes.
Polluted the rivers, and poisoned the land,
our hungry machines turned mountains to sand.

Now, earth answers back, she’s warned us enough;
it’s time for repayment, it’s going to be tough.
Her seas keep on rising, to flood coastal land,
storms hit our cities, no, this wasn’t planned!
Drought kills the fields and rivers run dry,
whole countries are starving, millions cry.

In land after land the answers are found,
stop cutting down trees, leave oil in the ground.
Stop burning all coal, polluting the planet,
use sun, wind, and water; we can if we plan it!
Now it the time to learn a new wisdom,
stop profiteering and change the old system.
