Poem of the Month, May 2014: Total Surrender

TOTAL SURRENDER

I sit back and let
the blissful sun do her work
on my upturned face.

From his melody
it sounds as if the blackbird
is doing the same.

I fill the birdbath
with fresh clean sparkling water
for our feathered friends.

The whole universe
focuses on a poet
basking in the sun.

Far off, the dull roar
of traffic going nowhere
and nations at war.

Total surrender –
the boy next door is bouncing
a ball in his yard.
