Poem of the Month, June 2014: Feeling Good

To feel good is all I want,
nothing else really matters.
Give me five or six hours’ sleep,
a thousand nembutsus by dawn,
and I’ll purr away happily like a well oiled motor-car.

To feel good when you feel bad
is a trick that can be learned
with patience and practice.
Every cell in your body
should be utterly relaxed,
your mind a well-ruled kingdom.

Be the master of your thoughts,
create a world of your own
where you feel completely at home
and share it with all your friends.
Nothing comes without effort.
Your life is a work of art.
