Extra POTM, August 2014: Diary Entry

A seagull cruises overhead
inspecting the city for food
which may have been left on the streets.
Hardly any cloud in the sky.

Seven o’clock has boomed away
and most people will be sitting
in front of their televisions
watching the carnage in Gaza.

Leaves in our garden whisper
to one another, tree to tree,
blackbird scandal, pigeon gossip,
the stuff of nature poetry.
