(Taken from the cover note)
The central body of poems is concerned with his rediscovery of Ireland, where he spent six years of his childhood. These poems were begun during 1970-72 when he lived on the west coast of Ireland. In these poems, as Michael Schmidt writes, he shows “a real breadth of scope, formal and experiential”.
Lizzie saw a perfect rainbow
Coming out of Simon’s chimney
Landing on her husband Marty
Walking off to milk a cow
Shortly after this had happened
Marty playing cards with Simon
Won a handsome Christmas turkey
Lizzie looks for rainbows now!
