The story behind these books is well known: how as a teenager and young man Steve carried a camera around the streets of Oxford and on visits to Central London in pursuit of every American car he could find. The resulting ‘Over Here’ archive consists of thousands of black and white photographs, many of which have remained unpublished – until now!
Many readers of Classic American will already be familiar with Steve Miles’ astonishing archive of old photographs – we’ve published several series of pictures in the magazine, and you might have copies of the books he’s published in recent years.
The photographs date from the 1960s, a few as late as about 1972, and the cars covered are mostly 50s and 60s models; they now represent an irreplaceable archive of historic material, not simply of the cars he set out to capture but of the streets of England at that time.
Perhaps we should emphasise that all of these images remain protected by copyright – they are published for others to enjoy but any reproduction is prohibited!
