Over Here Special Edition – Packard
ISBN 978-1-909551-66-4 Paperback £9.99
Alongside the current production of the ‘Over Here Collection’ series of books, we are working on a number of Special Editions, the first of which is now available:Â Packard!
This new book departs from the usual content of Steve Miles’ popular ‘Over Here’ books in including not only photographs of Packard automobiles taken around the streets of Oxford or London, but also those he took at a number of classic car events from 1969 until around 1989. Steve had discovered the Classic American Auto Club of Great Britain in the summer of 1969, and attended their rally at Woburn Abbey that August – the earliest of these ‘rally’pictures arise from that day. From then on he would get to as many such events as he could, which included the rallies of the Pre-50 American Auto Club at such locations as Penshurst Place in Kent and Dyrham Park near Bristol, and many more of these pictures are the result.
Unusually, this book also makes no excuse for including images which are also published in some of the existing ‘Over Here’ volumes – it is intended rather as his tribute to the Packard Motor Car Company and their automobiles. Included are over a hundred photographs – the oldest car depicted dates from 1916, the youngest from 1955 – each accompanied by Steve’s usual chatty captions; the text also offers a brief history of the development of Packard cars over the years
There will be further Special Edition books in the future, again using photographs from those rallies of the 70s and 80s, and offering images of many pre-war American cars; and maybe other parts of Steve’s extensive archive too! Watch this space, as the saying goes!
