We have moved on two years; Leo celebrates his fourteenth birthday, the first step for a boy into adulthood. And the year known to us as 79 AD was to prove a historic one – a new Emperor, and the spectacular disaster of the eruption of Vesuvius: as our tale is set around the Bay of Naples, we have a front-row seat for that terrible event!<\/p>\n
All of the characters familiar from Slave Prince and Roman Brother are back – Leo and his brother and sister, the Familia and Domus Eridani and the gruff retired General Germanicus – and new ones join them from Emperor Titus and Pliny the Elder to slave-boy Mercurio. The author’s careful research and active imagination once again bring us a story about people we can relate to set against a believable historical backdrop.<\/p>\n
‘I have a nasty habit of becoming very involved with my characters, almost as if they are my family – it can be a bit of a curse as I want to keep on following them!
