Reaching four score years I find
\nmy body is slower than my mind.
\nIn imagination I can rise above
\naching joints that will not move.
\nMy total lack of musical ability
\nno barrier to mental facility.<\/p>\n
Mozart, Beethoven, and Liszt,
\nall to my arthritic fingers grist.
\nIn celebration of each new day,
\nas I lie in bed I begin to play
\nalong with music from Radio 3,
\nit’s piano concertos just for me.<\/p>\n
Fingers race on imaginary keys,
\nand as I exercise, aim to please
\na fantasy audience with my skill,
\ngiving them all a musical thrill.
\nStiff joints and fingers soon relax
\ncaressing notes like Emanuel Ax.<\/p>\n
But, just in case they feel neglected
\nI switch to feet when it’s expected,
\nTapping to jigs, or Scottish reels –
\njust catching the music as it feels;
\nand once I lose my inhibition
\nI leap around to any position!<\/p>\n
