Tears of Autumn

Slowly the leaves of autumn fall
pirouetting in the breeze,
making carpets on our paths,
covering the year with
a coloured mantle.

Loss is in the damp cool air;
a giving up of  the vital
promise of spring, and a
shedding of summer’s rich
foliage, for winter.

Each dying leaf glows in
a kaleidoscope of colour;
like fiery tears of joy, as
life’s dance reaches its
blazing finale.
