Castlerigg Stone Circle

We gather, as our ancestors did
to touch the stones.
Sentinels of another world
lost to our sight.

Hot summer sun brings
whole families here,
parents photographing
each precious child.

Climbing a stone, they
wave and smile, shots
kept in digital memory
for future viewing.

Then it is picnic time,
from box and bag
come offerings shared
around the group.

We gather, as our ancestors did
to share our food; to mark
our life and time, like them
we fade to sunlit space.
