Christmas Lights

Across the darkened land,
as winter cold descends,
on buildings large and small,
an eruption takes place
of  brilliant flashing lights,
dancing across windows,
falling down walls, in
a show that never ends.

Old trees are garlanded,
with chains of coloured light
whilst hedges blossom out
in brand new mantles of
pulsating colours, like
fireworks bursting out
across the startled eyes
of roosting owls at night.

This exhibition blazes
across the gloomy sky,
sending hopeful signals
of worries set aside,
Families determined
to celebrate our life,
banish all our sorrow
and laugh instead of cry.

Banish the darkness now
for shining in the night
is hope renewed again.
Christmas joy abounds with
children’s voices singing
old carols worn by love,
telling that a Saviour
brings us all the light.
